Thank you for making a time to see me with the Goal Setting Interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  The bookings are 10 minute intervals and we will need to keep to the time.  Please be prompt and understand that others have booked and may also need to see other teachers. If needed we can always make another time to meet.  I look forward to seeing everyone.

Many of the class are keen but there are a few requirements are needed for them to be part of the team.  This information can be found on their learning site.  If they are able to meet the requirements can you please help them complete the form asap.

This needs to be done by the end of Wednesday at the latest.

  • Teams need to consist of 3 Totara students.

  • Teams do not need to be all from the same class.

  • Each team needs to have a parent who will assist the team. This includes practices and attending the competition. Organise this before entering.

  • The competition is on 24 and 25 September. All team members need to make a commitment to be available for these days.

  • All equipment and costs for the Rotorua competition will be paid for by St Mary's.

  • Build days are scheduled for Friday 29 July. This is a school day where you will build the Aquabots here at school.

  • A fact sheet and presentation day will be scheduled. This is a school day, Mr G will (hopefully) accompany the teams.

A maximum of 5 teams can be entered from our school. The Totara teachers will choose the 5 teams to represent our school this year.maximum of 5 teams can be entered from our school. Totara teachers will choose the 5 teams to represent our school this year.

Museum Trip

As part of our learning around Local Curriculum this year, we have organised class visits to the Rotorua Museum. The students will be learning about Nga Korero o te Kura - Our School Stories. During the 2 hour visit, the students will uncover the unique history of the area our school is situated in. They will explore with the museum education team using taonga, landmarks, maps, objects or photographs what happened in the past and who were the people or events that contributed to change.

Our class will be

- Thursday 4 August @ 12.30pm – 2.30pm   Room 3

We need 4 adults to help with this. Please, if you can help please let me know asap.

The holidays are about to come to an end.  I hope you all have had a great time and kept free from all the bugs that have been going around.  It was great to see a couple kids from our class joining in with the Steam Holiday Days that Mr James organised.  I really enjoyed it and got some ideas to use in our class.

Production practice starts straight away and our class will be taking part as well.  We start our whole class practice on Monday.  I am really looking forward to this as I have not had the opportunity to do a school production before.  Congratulations to the children from our class who auditioned and have gained a part in the show.  There are more auditions going to happen during the week.

Our Learning this Term.

Maths - Geometry - to identify, describe and draw 2D and 3D shapes.
         - Multiplication - to learn our times tables to x12 with instant recall.  (Encourage them to practice at home, make it into a game/challenge/competition).
Math Whizz - Our goal is to get 4+ progressions each week.  This can be done at home as we often don't get the opportunity to do in class.  This is a great programme which helps build the children's understanding and confidence.

Reading - to skim and scan text to find relevant information.  Word finds are a great way to help build the skill o skimming and scanning.

Writing - attempt more complex punctuation such as apostrophes for possession, commas for clauses
          - going back and recraft our writing checking punctuation, spelling and meaning.  using a dictionary and thesaurus to help when making corrections..

Religious Education - Prayer - using prayer as a way to grow closer to God.

Can you please ensure your child has a ruler, red pen and headphones.  These will be required this term.  Over the ear headphones are better as the ear plug type tends to get lost in their desk and a lot of time is spent untangling them.  The ones from Warehouse or K Mart are great and reasonably priced.
